What is Paisley Park?
Paisley Park is an active museum, state-of-the-art recording studio and concert venue in Chanhassen, MN. For nearly 30 years, the facility served as Prince’s home, creative sanctuary and production complex.
Fulfilling Prince’s vision that Paisley Park would one day be open to the public, the venue today welcomes fans, musicians and audiophiles for tours, concerts, festivals and special events.
While Paisley Park is thought of as both a concept and as a physical venue, Prince’s core vision and articulation of Paisley Park thrives today as:
A Museum
A Recording Studio
A Live Music Venue
An Event Space
An Educational Organization

History
When was Paisley Park built?
Following the meteoric success of Purple Rain, Prince built Paisley Park the course of two years, with initial plans drawn in 1985, and the doors opened on September 11, 1987.
Why did Prince build Paisley Park?
Prince often referred to Paisley Park in songs and interviews, even before the building was constructed. The rich narrative that Prince built around Paisley Park positions it as much a concept and myth as it is physical space.
As a physical venue, Prince built Paisley Park to be an environment where he could create in a free, independent and open manner – realizing any artistic vision, whether it be a song, video, movie, photoshoot, visual art form or any other creative output all under one roof. Decades later, this concept of an all-encompassing, single-location creative haven would become popular, but Paisley Park was the first-of-its-kind in the musical world.
In concept, Paisley Park is an environment in which one can be truly “free” – uninhibited by history, social, cultural or economic factors; characteristics like ethnicity, race, wealth and education don’t matter at Paisley Park. In his 1985 song “Paisley Park,” Prince sings, “Admission is easy, just say U Believe, and come 2 this Place in your heart, Paisley Park is in your heart.”

How long did it take to build Paisley Park?
